Welcome to the pLAYmARKETING blog!
Amidst Christmas decorations, lights, and Christmas trees, these days are filled with the classic holiday atmosphere. Advertisements also contribute to enriching this festive climate. To demonstrate, we have selected 5 very famous Christmas commercials!
1. The Christmas jingle of Coca Cola:
One of the most iconic Christmas commercials was launched by Coca Cola in the 1980s. Its strength was undoubtedly the jingle, which became a real hit in 1983. A group of boys and girls, holding candles, formed a large Christmas tree while singing the catchy melody. The captivating tune, the message of peace, and the sweetness of the video made this commercial one of the most successful Christmas ads ever.
2. The triumph of Pandoro Bauli with “Ba ba ba”:
This Bauli commercial from the 1980s was essential for promoting Pandoro during that period. The song with a man at the piano and children around, a scene simple and joyful at the same time, became quite popular. The iconic Pandoro Bauli package, often transformed into a rudimentary helmet in the hands of children, was already being used beyond its function as a box: as a drum to accompany the piano.
3. “Troooppo buona!”: Perugina Baci Christmas advertisement:
Moving into the 1990s, we have a Perugina Baci commercial that many of you will surely remember. The protagonist was a little girl who decided how many chocolates to give to each family member, judging them based on their “level of goodness.” Of course, in the end, she was the kindest of them all!
4. For gifts you can’t wait to give: John Lewis Christmas advertisement:
Skipping ahead to 2011, the English department store chain John Lewis released a Christmas commercial that was initially online and later on TV. The video, which moved thousands of viewers, offered a surprisingly tender ending, distinguishing it from the “usual” Christmas ads.
5. No one is alone at Christmas: EDEKA commercial:
The German supermarket chain EDEKA created a Christmas commercial in 2015 that might be remembered by many. It was widely shared on social media. The story features an elderly man living alone, far from his loved ones. Christmas appears to be a sad day for him, as his children and grandchildren inform him through voicemail messages that they won’t be able to visit him on December 25th.
The situation reaches its peak on Christmas morning when the family is notified that the man is no longer there. In despair, they desperately try to reach his house to at least bid him a final farewell. However, the twist occurs when, upon arriving, they discover that the house is not hosting a funeral but a carefully set Christmas table. Amidst the family’s perplexity, the protagonist of the commercial enters, still alive and well, asking with a smile: “How else could I have brought you all here to me?”
Edeka’s Christmas advertisement is not only a commercial but also a story capable of moving. That’s its strength.
